RELIEF PRINTINGLinocut (Relief printing) The artist draws the image on the lino and then cuts away the negative space around the image thereby leaving the image raised on the linocut (reduced). The background area or negative space which is carved away creates the white areas on the print. Ink is applied with a roller to the raised surface. Paper is placed on the image and an impression is transferred by rubbing (burnishing) the back of the paper. The ink transfers by contact the paper. To repeat the print the linocut is re-inked and the process repeated. TITLE: THE CIRCLE OF ELDERS, 1120 X 91 CM, LINOCUT |
